I’m Kara Aycock, a longtime Chapel Hill resident, daughter of small business owners, and mom of two college-aged kids. I spent years volunteering in schools, hospitals, and the Guardian ad Litem program — organizing meals, treats, and care packages to lift spirits and lighten loads. And in my own home, I had a ritual of setting out baskets of snacks and welcome treats for overnight guests — just a small gesture to say you matter here.

That spirit of intentional giving is what inspired Handpicked.

What started as a care package service for UNC students has grown into a full gifting studio for busy parents, professionals, and organizations who want to make someone’s day — without running all over town. We offer locally sourced, artfully curated gifts featuring some of North Carolina’s most beloved makers, makers I’m proud to support as the daughter of entrepreneurs myself.
